Business Give Connecticut Companies: Their Commitment to Communities

The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy is proud to release the results of our recent survey – Connecticut Companies: Their Commitment to Communities. Through interviews with 400 people who work in corporate philanthropy or play that role for their business, we sought insights into the motivations and trends in businesses engagement in their communities. The research was conducted by the Center for Survey Research & Analysis at the University of Connecticut.

In this summary of findings, we offer the collective views of a representative selection of the businesses in Connecticut on a number of topical issues, from the focus of their grantmaking, to the importance of relationships, to what practices are in place to encourage employees engaging in community. We hope that the business community will find insights and examples of how your peers are investing in communities, and that the nonprofit community will find insights that will enlighten and inform future work with the business community.

Together with its partners in this effort, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the University of Hartford Barney School of Business, Connecticut Voices for Children, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA), the Connecticut Technology Council, the MetroHartford Regional Economic Alliance, the Southwestern Area Commerce and Industry Association (SACIA), the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy, Nickerson-Zegarelli Consultants, LLC, and the Treasurer’s Office of the State of Connecticut, the Council will continue to support and encourage dialogue in areas identified by this study and will share examples and practices of how businesses are engaging in community.

We hope this study provides a starting point for increased and more effective business investment for healthier community life.
