Associate Grants Manager

Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the community foundation for the 29-town Greater Hartford region, is seeking a skilled grants management professional to join our grants management team. 

The work:  ensure prompt, accurate and thoroughly documented grant payments, communications to grantees, and reports, maintaining electronic and print databases, communicating with grantee agency staff as well as Foundation program staff, supporting the Foundation’s grantmaking. 

The qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Thorough understanding of database applications, including data entry, creating and producing standard and ad hoc reports, teaching other users basic functions

  • Thoroughly proficient in Microsoft Office including powerpoint, excel and access.

  • Demonstrated ability to consistently follow established protocols.

  • Proven track record of working independently as well as contributing to highly effective teams.

  • Record of producing thoroughly accurate, quality work to meet urgent deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly on the job and apply new skills proficiently and consistently.

  • Proven analytical, communication and reporting skills.

  • Basic understanding of IRS and foundation-specific regulations related to grant making

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

  • Understanding of foundation structure and history; understanding of civic and nonprofit organizations in Greater Hartford preferred. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, and punctuation.

Communications Officer

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the community foundation for the

29-town Greater Hartford region, is seeking a talented, experienced journalist or public relations professional to join an energetic, creative communications team. 

 

The work:  develop and place informative stories about what the Foundation’s support (and the generosity of donors) makes possible—in newspapers, newsletters, websites, and other media; assist agencies receiving Foundation grants to communicate about their services; find opportunities and prepare presentations for Foundation staff to let community groups know about our work and how they can be involved. 

 

The qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of successful professional experience in media or public relations; exceptional written and oral communication skills; proven ability to translate complex ideas and detailed information into fresh, compelling, meaningful copy; intellectual curiosity; research, critical thinking and analysis skills; ability to thrive in high-speed, multiple-task environment, delivering quality results within deadline; ability to relate comfortably and supportively to diverse co-workers, donors, grantees and vendors; sense of humor; understanding of civic and nonprofit organizations in Greater Hartford, preferred.

Community Foundation Controller

Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is seeking a talented controller to join a committed, professional, hard working finance team. 

The mission:  ensure timely, accurate financial systems and reports, with accountability for developing and implementing annual operating and grants budgets, ensuring superior accounting staff performance, fund management, cash management, annual audit, and payroll. 

The work:  maintain accurate and timely financial records and filings with state and federal agencies; prepare standard and special financial reports and analyses; oversee reconciliation of all investment and pooled accounts; ensure compliance with grantmaking, administration and gift acceptance policies; oversee annual audit process; serve as primary backup for vice president of finance and administration.

The qualifications:  bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or nonprofit management, with MBA/CPA preferred; five years successful experience in accounting and finance, preferably in the nonprofit sector; thorough technical accounting and audit knowledge; demonstrated ability to complete multiple assignments on time with full accuracy and quality; exceptional oral and written communication skills; track record of building productive, mutually supportive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and of contributing to highly effective teams; demonstrated initiative and problem solving abilities; understanding of  civic and nonprofit organizations in Greater Hartford preferred.
