2007 Report on Major and
Capital Campaigns
Greater Hartford, Greater New Haven and Fairfield County
Published annually by the
Connecticut Council for Philanthropy, the 2007 Reports on Major and Capital
Campaigns in Greater Hartford, Greater New Haven and Fairfield County serve
as a measure of recently completed, current and anticipated campaign
activities. The reports are designed to provide timely information to
funders, potential funders, and to nonprofit organizations to help them
perform their work more efficiently and effectively.
The reports include
information on 85 major campaigns in Greater Hartford, Greater New Haven and
Fairfield County. Of the 80 campaigns that have set goals, the
combined total is over $980 million. Educational organizations comprise the
largest number of campaigns with 27 organizations seeking $337 million in
funding (34% of the combined goal). There are 23 human services
organizations seeking total funding of $124.5 million (13% of the combined
goal) and 21 arts and culture organizations seeking $227 million (28% of the
combined goal). Nearly 62% of the combined goal has been raised or pledged
to date leaving $377 million yet to be raised.
The summaries do not include several major campaigns that also reach out to
a national population: University of Hartford - $175 million; Trinity
College - $350 million; Yale-New Haven Hospital - $467 million; and Yale
University - $3 billion.

Fairfield County

The 2007 survey of
major and capital campaigns includes 29 campaigns with 27 reporting
goals of $357 million; a 17 increase over the 2006 goal of $305 million.

Of the total goal, 92%
is for capital needs, 6% for endowment and 4% for other.

Of the 29 campaigns, 4
are in arts and culture, 10 in education, 6 in health care and 9 in
human services.

Greater Hartford

Thirty-nine
organizations seek funding in the Greater Hartford area; 37 campaigns
report a total goal of $571 million, slightly less than the 2006 goal of
$577 million.

Of the total goal, 65%
is for capital needs, 10% for endowment, 4% for other and 21% to be
determined.

Of the 39 active
campaigns, 16 are in arts and culture, 8 in education, 10 in human
services and 5 in environment. There are no current health care
campaigns.

has been raised or committed to date.
Greater New Haven

The 2007 survey of
major and capital campaigns includes 20 active campaigns with 19
reporting goals of $293 million. This is a 7% increase over the 2006
goal of $273 million.

Of the total goal, 45%
is for capital needs, 9% for endowment, 3% for other and 41% to be
determined.

Of the 20 campaigns, 4
are in arts and culture, 9 in education, 3 in health care and 4 in human
services.
