Information on homelessness in northwest Connecticut, as well as assistance for individuals experiencing homelessness, is now available online.
A new Web site, www.nwct10yearplan.com, includes the latest news about legislative action, statistics on homelessness, details on the local effort, and sample 10-year plans from communities around the state.
In addition, area residents who are at risk of becoming homeless can access helpful information and obtain referrals to community resources.
“The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness has encouraged local jurisdictional authorities, civic leaders, and community stakeholders to become part of a growing national movement to end homelessness,” Guy Rovezzi, president of The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, said. “This movement, supported by a model that employs a 10-year plan to end chronic homelessness, is the first step toward permanently addressing the problem of homelessness, as opposed to simply managing it.”
In order to access critical funding opportunities, reduce the long-term costs to taxpayers, and build stronger communities for future generations of Northwest Corner residents, Torrington Mayor Ryan Bingham—together with the NW CT Continuum of Care, The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, Torrington Savings Bank, and The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital—have embraced the 10-year plan model.
“We are hopeful that the finished plan will be an expression of our collective commitment to creating long-term, sustainable solutions to homelessness,” Mr. Rovezzi said. “With the development of such a plan, we will have created a roadmap—one that will lead us to a Northwest Corner where all residents can count on having a safe, affordable roof over their heads.”
