More than 210 colleagues from the philanthropy sector gathered together on May 25 to celebrate, to network and to learn.
Tom Tierney, keynote speaker and Chairman and Co-Founder of the Bridgespan Group, offered a thought-provoking message describing the structural barriers that make it hard to use philanthropy to drive change; the five bad habits of philanthropic funding organizations that encumber impact; and offered questions geared to each bad habit to use to improve over time.
Recognition was given to two individuals – Shelley Geballe, recipient of the John H. Filer Award, for her leadership in promoting private action for the public good, and Alice Fitzpatrick, recipient of the Martha S. Newman Award, for her exemplary service to communities in Eastern Connecticut and the philanthropic sector in Connecticut. Outgoing board of directors for the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy were recognized and incoming directors were introduced.
