For grantmakers who are located in or funding in Fairfield County
Join your colleagues for a gathering of funders in Fairfield County and participate in a collegial meeting to network, share updates and information, and engage in conversation.
One in five people experiences a mental illness in any given year, yet issues of stigma, awareness, and access to care prevent many from seeking help. In Connecticut, fewer than half of those in need receive treatment. Despite the recent report that Connecticut is one of the few states to have increased public spending on mental health over the past three years, our behavioral health service system is chronically underfunded. In the nonprofit sector, community providers are overburdened trying to meet ever-growing demand as families in need of help try in vain to find therapists who will accept their insurance.
To support funders in understanding this important issue, we will start by sharing the impact of mental illness on individuals and families. We will discuss service needs and will identify current issues in terms of legislation, funding, and services.
