For staff and trustees of grantmaking organizations
Last November, CCP and the United Way of Central and Northeastern CT hosted a statewide meeting for funders focused on hurricane survivors relocating from Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to Connecticut. At that time, flights were just beginning to leave the islands. Since then, somewhere between 3,500 and 5,000 survivors have relocated to CT.
Some 169 households with no viable housing options in CT are currently sheltered in hotel rooms through FEMA. Recently, FEMA withdrew eligibility for more than 40 households. All FEMA-supported hoteling ends March 20. Nineteen hurricane survivor households are currently in the homeless system. Help centers and service providers across the state continue to report that other evacuee families – currently doubled up with relatives or friends – may face homelessness in the next few months, as their temporary housing arrangements become unsustainable.
Join CCP to get updated on this critical and time-sensitive issue and learn about a statewide proposal to meet the urgent housing needs of these evacuees, and prevent them from entering the homeless system.
