Women & Girls Fund Supports Civics Education

TORRINGTON, CT -- The Women & Girls Fund, a fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $1,245 to Northwest Connecticut YMCA to support citizenship classes, including ESL and civics instruction for mothers and daughters.

Civic Life Project Receives Grant From Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation to Develop Pilot Middle School Program

CORNWALL BRIDGE, CT -- The Civic Life Project, which has successfully developed civic engagement, cross-cultural understanding, and social responsibility among high school students since 2010, has received a grant of $6,000 from The Buchanan Fund, a fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation to adapt and expand its existing program for middle schools.

The Green Book Has Hartford Debut – Documentary Tells Real Story of Guide to Freedom Through Segregated America

HARTFORD, CT -- The documentary, “The Green Book: Guide to Freedom,” was shown at a special preview at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, in a showing coordinated by the Amistad Center for Art and Culture, Comcast, and the Smithsonian Channel.  It marked the third year that Comcast has joined with the Amistad Center and Smithsonian Channel to bring a special presentation to Hartford during Black History month.
