National Fund for Workforce Solutions Awards $145,000 Social Innovation Fund Grant to Workforce Solutions Collaborative of Metro Hartford

HARTFORD, CT -- The National Fund for Workforce Solutions, a national partnership of communities, employers, workers and philanthropy, announced the awarding of a new $145,000 Social Innovation Fund (SIF) grant to Workforce Solutions Collaborative of Metro Hartford. Workforce Solutions is a funders' collaborative and network of public/private stakeholder organizations that helps meet area employer needs for a skilled workforce with a focus on unemployed and lower-income wage earners. Funders include American Savings Foundation, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, National Fund for Workforce Solutions, Nutmeg Foundation, Prudential Foundation and United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.

UTC and Junior Achievement Provide International Opportunities for High School Students

WALLINGFORD, CT -- The first-in-the-nation Junior Achievement (JA) international exchange program – JA Global Connection – sponsored by United Technologies, wrapped up a year-long venture in August. Twenty high school students from Wallingford, Conn., accompanied by program organizers, traveled to Shanghai Fudan University to spend 10 days with their Shanghai counterparts participating in workshops focused on topics including business leadership, ethics and entrepreneurship.
