HARTFORD, CT -- Governor Ned Lamont today announced the creation of the Connecticut Workforce Development Unit – a state office that will be responsible for developing workforce policy, utilizing data to set a vision for the workforce pipeline, and coordinating the state’s workforce ecosystem around a common strategy and set of goals.
HARTFORD, CT -- Connecticut has teamed with employment search engine Indeed to create a state-specific online portal to link those who have lost jobs during the coronavirus pandemic with employers as the economy reopens. Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday the portal is the first of its kind in the country and part of a new program called the CT Back to Work Initiative, which also will include an online job fair and online job training programs for the approximately 610,000 state residents who have filed for unemployment during the pandemic.
HARTFORD, CT -- Lamont signed an executive order creating the Governor’s Workforce Council, an effort to deliver on a campaign promise to bring new methods and energy to workforce development, a buzzword that suggests a holistic approach to what once was called job training. It is tasked with expanding the workforce, then matching supply with significant demand. Hartford Foundation for Public Giving Presidetn Jay Williams was appointed one of twenty-three council members.
HARTFORD, CT -- Eastern Connecticut manufacturing jobs grew four times as fast as the rest of the state between 2015 and 2019, the Connecticut Business & Industry Association is reporting. Two-thirds of all statewide manufacturing job growth during that period took place in the eastern region's 41 communities, ranging from Lyme to Stonington in the south to Union and Thompson in the north.
HARTFORD, CT -- While experts say the Malloy administration has made progress on those workforce goals over the past eight years, challenges remain — a point the governor himself concedes as he enters his final four months in office. While Connecticut's workforce remains highly educated and productive, many industries report difficulties filling positions, including manufacturing, construction, transportation and logistics and health care, to name a few.
