Marks FY2017 as a Record-breaking Year for Grant Making

HARTFORD, CT -- In the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017, the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford surpassed its all-time record for annual grant making, awarding nearly 1,000 grants, totaling $4.3 million.

Grants were awarded to organizations locally, nationally, in Israel and around the world. Organizations will use the grants for myriad of projects and initiatives, including: exploring innovative solutions to challenges facing our local and world communities, scholarships to assist students afford the ever-rising cost of higher education, growing existing programs to serve more people as well as to assist local Jewish organizations with their day to day operations.

In sharing the results, Michael Johnston, President and CEO at the Foundation noted: “Part of our mission at the Foundation is to assist each donor discover their own unique path toward repairing the world. This record breaking year reflects the true impact that philanthropy can have toward that pursuit. Through the generosity of our donors, I believe we have realized significant impact in assisting those in need and strengthening the ability of our most important nonprofit institutions to achieve their mission.”

“It is truly humbling to think of the donors, both old and new, who have entrusted their philanthropic dollars to the Jewish Community Foundation, and we are proud of the work we have done to ensure that those dollars are having the greatest possible impact,” Johnston added.

These record breaking totals can be attributed to a number of factors: the Foundation’s increasing asset base; an expanded awareness and understanding of the power of endowment; and a growing belief in the power of philanthropy to make a difference in our community.
