WHY: Homeownership for Greater New Haven’s urban residents in lower income brackets is exceedingly difficult given the high cost of living and unaffordable housing options in the region. In New Haven, which ranks high among cities with the widest gaps in income and has some of the highest housing costs, housing choices are disproportionately limited for minority groups (Black, Latino, single-parent households, households with disabilities). This no-interest loan program aims to reduce a common barrier to homeownership.
