CCP Public Policy Update: Census Workshops for Nonprofits

Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Happy New Year! In the last weeks of December, my family and I enjoyed some really lovely time together – cooking, eating, skating, and skiing (for the first time!). I hope that you were able to enjoy happy and healthy holidays, too.

Today, I write to share news of an upcoming Census workshops series that CCP is co-sponsoring with Connecticut Community Nonprofit Alliance, Connecticut Data Collaborative, and some of you throughout January. The Count Me in 2020 Workshop Series intends to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of the Census to Connecticut, to explain precisely how it will work, and to seek the assistance of organizations in communities statewide.

Connecticut’s nonprofits and philanthropic organizations have a special role to play in the 2020 Census. Because local nonprofits are so often known and trusted in the communities they serve, they are critical partners to encourage participation in the Census.

The workshops are free, led by U.S. Census Bureau staff, and open to all nonprofits. We urge you to attend if you’re interested in learning more, and to distribute these opportunities to your grantees.

There has been a lot of news about the Census lately, including voices from Connecticut’s nonprofit and philanthropic communities. You may want to listen to these programs, one featuring the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving's Jay Williams and one featuring Michelle Riordan-Nold from the Connecticut Data Collaborative:

In case you missed it, here’s a recent update that CCP sent out about the 2020 Census.

If you’re interested in learning more about how your foundation can support Connecticut’s Census efforts, or if you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Best regards,

Karla Fortunato
CCP President
