Local Non-profits Receive More Than $20,000 for Participating in Comcast Cares Day

BERLIN, CT -- The Comcast Foundation announced, today, that they have awarded over $20,000 in grants to 15 Connecticut organizations in support of their volunteer efforts during Comcast Cares Day, which took place earlier this year.

Throughout the state over 1,200 volunteers from organizations such as Danbury Animal Welfare Society, The ARC New London County, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, United Way of Greater New Haven, and Village for Families & Children landscaped, painted, conducted general spring clean-up and other work at 19 project sites throughout the state.  The work effort was part of the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day, which took place in April during National Volunteer Month and is Comcast NBCUniversal’s signature day of service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort.

“During Comcast Cares Day we were delighted to partner with these incredible organizations to give back,” said Michael Parker, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Western New England Region, which is headquartered in Connecticut. “It’s really inspiring how we can drive positive change when our employees, their family and friends, and our community partners rally together to make a lasting difference in our communities. I am very thankful for the participants who helped to make this effort a success.”

"Comcast Cares Day is a testament to the power of volunteering,” said Paula S. Gilberto, president and CEO of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. "United Way was proud to partner with Comcast to 'make change happen'. Together, we're Finding the Best Way to bring people together to help our communities."

“We were delighted and humbled that Comcast, and their wonderful team of volunteers, chose the Danbury Animal Welfare Society for their Comcast Cares Day service,” added Bill Jasper, President of the Board of Directors for the Society.  “As one of the regions oldest and largest dog and cat adoption facilities, our building gets a LOT of use.  Last year alone, we adopted over 800 dogs and cats!  Our goal is to optimize the dollars we raise through fundraising and adoption fees to support the animals and find them forever-homes. Therefore, our building and grounds needed some TLC and it meant the world to us that Comcast helped us make repairs so that we can concentrate on saving even more wonderful, adoptable dogs and cats. Thank you, Comcast!”
