HARTFORD, CT -- Foodshare, a regional food bank based in Bloomfield, Conn., recently received a $5,000 grant from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Dari Farms of Tolland to support Mobile Foodshare, the organization’s pantry-on-wheels program.

Mobile Foodshare’s pantry-on-wheels brings fresh produce and other food to neighbors in need at community sites throughout Hartford and Tolland counties. The program increases access to healthy food and nutrition throughout the region serving an average of 15,000 visitors each month.

“We are extremely grateful to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Dari Farms of Tolland for their support of this important program,” said Jason Jakubowski, President & CEO at Foodshare. “This grant will provide 12,500 meals worth of food to Mobile Foodshare clients struggling with hunger throughout Greater Hartford.”

In partnership with the food industry, donors, community leaders and volunteers, Foodshare works to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources that support food security. Last year, Foodshare distributed more than 11 million meals worth of food to a network of nearly 300 local food pantries, meal programs, and Mobile Foodshare sites. And, because hunger is more than food, Foodshare collaborates with anti-hunger organizations, policy makers, and the broader community to build effective solutions to end hunger.
