Job Post: Data Director, Bridgeport Prospers- United United Way of Coastal Fairfield County

We are seeking a candidate to fill the position of Data Director for our cradle to career, signature initiative- Bridgeport Prospers. This is a full-time position based in our Bridgeport, CT office (however we are working virtually due to Covid for the foreseeable future).

Bridgeport Prospers is a community-wide, collective impact initiative modeled after StriveTogether, a national movement comprised of 67 cities across the country. StriveTogether is a movement with ahas a clear purpose: helping every child succeed in school and life from cradle to career, regardless of race, zip code or circumstance. StriveTogether provides resources, best practices and processes to give every child every chance for success.

Bridgeport Prospers has identified seven outcome areas for intense focus. They are points along the cradle to career continuum that are proven to be key levers that need to be moved in order to achieve the cradle to career vision and goals. Within each outcome area, specific measures will be used to track progress and hold the community accountable for its success: Infant Health; Kindergarten; Early Grade Reading; Middle Grade Math; High School Graduation; Post-secondary Enrollment/Completion; Youth Employment/Careers. In each outcome area, we measure what matters, identify effective practices and align resources so that we are investing in what works.


Reporting to Executive Director of Bridgeport Prospers, the Data Director will be responsible for providing leadership and support to align and oversee the collection, management, and architecture of all data. This includes conducting or contracting research, and designing, implementing and supporting all data planning, management, analysis, visualization and presentation.

The Data Director will lead the data analysis to measure the impact of the initiative’s work and to facilitate evidenced-based decision  making and continuous improvement. A critical responsibility of the Data Director is piece of the position is supporting and educating partner organizations and the community in the planning, implementation and understanding of data collection and analysis. The Data Director will work closely with cross-sector partners in healthcare, education, social services, housing, public health and others to access data, create roadmaps for data sharing to sharing data, facilitate information exchange/interoperability conversations, analyze multiple data sets, and tell a “story’ with that data to unearth health, educational, and community inequities. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to build relationships and operational structures, while communicating successfully with diverse individuals and groups- incorporating a racial and ethnic perspective in research, while confronting assumptions and implicit biases that influence how partner groups conduct research, interpret data, and present and message findings.



  • Works closely with Bridgeport Prospers team and leadership to facilitate change and data-driven decision making through the provision of timely and meaningful information and data.

  • Works with key community partners to recommend a comprehensive cross-provider system that incorporates data across the health and educational pipeline from birth through college and career.

  • Provides tools and supports to assist community partners through change management necessary to implement and sustain proposed improvements.

  • Reconvenes and facilitates Bridgeport Prospers DataNetwork, a group of data advisors across United Way initiatives, with a special focus on multi-year implementation of the Bridgeport Baby Bundle. The Data Director’s role will include connecting the advisors with data support needs across the initiative. 

Planning and Organizing

  • Designs and manages the data architecture in close collaboration with the healthcare system involved in our Bridgeport Baby Bundle Ecosystem, including - This includes Yale New Haven Health (Bridgeport Hospital), St. , Vincent’s Medical Center, Optimus, Southwest Community Health, and the Bridgeport Health Department.

  • Efficiently uses and manages this data collection and visualization through data analytic software such as Clear Impact, Tableau, Alteryx, or others.

  • Develops a data-oriented working relationship with the Bridgeport Public Schools as well as other partners including from the human services, mental health, economic development, housing, and workforce sectors.

  • Plans for the collection, analysis, and reporting of data to measure the partnership’s impact, including project level performance measures and community-wide wide population outcome indicators. Planning for data collection across multiple partners and longitudinal analysis of data from across partner organizations and the schools is critically important.

  • Develops effective processes and systems to monitor execution, collection, and reporting of data. 

  • Maintains knowledge of data resources from the education sector and from and community resources.

Data Management and Analysis

  • Leads the coordination of data collection,  and management, and quality control. including data compilation from partner, internal and external sources, and manages data quality assurance processes.

  • In partnership with UW leadership, reports on and shares data on a regular basis with partners, the community, and investors, in formats that appeal to and accommodate the needs of various stakeholders and audiences.

  • Procure data sharing agreements with Builds a relationship with the Bridgeport Public Schools to procure a data sharing agreement and other partners as needed to ensure relevant data access and responsible data stewardship.

Data Interoperability/ Systems: 

Initially for the Bridgeport Baby Bundle Pritzker Grant:

  • Creates a strategic plan for to the creation of a “unique- child” database, and secure data sharing agreements related to births through the first three years of life, including child and family risk, strength and demographic data.

  • In partnership with state and local government and the private sector (as needed), identifies infrastructure to create “bridge” allowing communication between the partners’ existing data systems.

  • In partnership with Southwest Health Center, Optimus and Bridgeport Hospital, co-develops a case flagging system for families at moderate to high risk, and partner with the Baby Bundle team to identify  and track impact  necessary improvements in on case practice from inclusion of the Baby Bundle initiatives.

  • Collaborates with state agencies (OEC, OHS, DSS, Medicaid) to align data systems and access data on a statewide level. These agencies will include the Office of Early Childhood, Office of Health Strategy, Department of Social Services, the CT Medicaid system, Office for Policy and Management, and the P-20 WIN data system

Teamwork and Collaboration 

  • Works closely and facilitates effective communication with partners regarding planning and implementation of data practices, including developing evidence-based continuous improvement action plans and providing technical assistance where needed.

  • Develops and cultivates relationships with community stakeholders, including data and research professionals in education, business, faith-based, nonprofit, philanthropic and civic sectors.


  • Minimum of B.A. degree; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in the construction, use and reporting of various kinds of data.

  • Passion for and commitment to ensuring equity and excellence in education for children in Bridgeport, CT.

  • Demonstrated joy in work that improves the lives of children and families.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

  • Knowledge of Bridgeport or lived/work experience in an urban setting preferred.

  • Racial equity/racial bias training in data collection reducing implicit bias is strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge and expertise managing data systems and processes.

  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills and experience.

  • Expert skill with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)  and other data programs, including analytical software. Experience with Clear Impact, Tableau, Alteryx, and/or PowerSchool a plus.

  • Experience with data systems integration strongly preferred.

  • Experience with education, health, and social services data, including external data sources, strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written), including ability to communicate data concepts with multiple audiences in a culturally competent manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to create processes and systems, identify and initiate continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated experience in project facilitation and management.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and think creatively.

  • Ability to self-manage, work independently and be proactive problem solver.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
