Recipient of Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award to receive $100,000

NEW YORK, NY -- The Travelers Foundation, the charitable arm of The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV), today announced that it is accepting applications for its annual Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award. The award recognizes nonprofits that are dedicated to helping communities prepare for and recover from catastrophic events. The winning organization will receive a $100,000 grant, presented at a disaster preparedness symposium in spring 2019, hosted by the company’s public policy division, the Travelers Institute.

“Ensuring that the appropriate disaster preparation, response and recovery plans are in place can make a significant difference in the amount of time it takes for a community to bounce back after a catastrophe occurs,” said Marlene Ibsen, CEO and President of the Travelers Foundation. “The Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award helps organizations fulfill their mission of creating stronger neighborhoods through disaster mitigation and response.”

Previous Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award recipients include:

  • Smart Home America (2018 recipient), a nonprofit that promotes the use of stronger construction methods, improved building codes and policies that create resilient communities.

  • Lowlander Center (2017 recipient), a Louisiana-based organization that provides education, research and advocacy for the state’s coastal communities.

  • All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response (2016 recipient), a nonprofit focused on addressing the immediate and long-term needs of communities affected by natural disasters.

  • Team Rubicon (2015 recipient), an organization that leverages the skills and experiences of military veterans to deploy emergency response teams after disasters.

“We’re pleased to offer this award each year to recognize organizations that do so much to help our communities better prepare for disasters,” said Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice President of Public Policy at Travelers.
