United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut CEO Named 2019 Wise Woman Honoree by National Organization of Italian American Women

HARTFORD, CT -- United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut is proud to announce that the National Organization of Italian American Women (NOIAW) has selected Paula S. Gilberto, President and CEO, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, as one of its 2019 Three Wise Women Honorees.

For more than 30 years, the NOIAW has honored Italian American women for their leadership in the community.

“I’m proud of my Italian heritage,” said Gilberto. “Credit for receiving this award goes to the women in my family who demonstrated the value of community service and encouraged me throughout my professional career.”

Gilberto has been a United Way champion for children and families in our region for more than two decades. She has focused on building public/private partnerships for grade-level reading, student achievement, financial security and workforce development. Gilberto chairs the steering committees of Hartford Generation Work, a young adult employment initiative of The Annie E. Casey Foundation and Workforce Solutions Collaborative of Metro Hartford, a funders collaborative dedicated to sector-based, employer-driven partnerships.

In addition, she’s a founding member of United Way’s Women United, a diverse network of professional women that has raised more than $1 million for financial capability services for women and families in Greater Hartford.

Gilberto serves on the Board of Directors for Capital Workforce Partners and the National Fund for Workforce Solutions. She has also worked on several United Way Worldwide committees developing organizational standards and education and financial security initiatives.

Gilberto earned a Master of Science in Organizational Behavior from University of Hartford and a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Psychology from University of Bridgeport. She is a Family Strengthening for Success Fellow from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Prior to her career at United Way, Gilberto held various management positions with the American Red Cross, Farmington, CT.

Gilberto will be recognized for her professional accomplishments at NOIAW’s annual Three Wise Women Epiphany Celebration on January 13, 2019 at the New Haven Lawn Club from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The two other honorees are Karen T. Galbo, Executive Director, People’s United Community Foundation and Linda Richetelli-Pepe, Senior Director, Healthcare Economics, Policy and Reimbursement and Executive Director, Women in Surgery, Medtronics.
