NEW CANAAN, CT -- The high school aged members of the New Canaan Community Foundation’s Young Philanthropists group invite residents to attend their benefit dinner at elm restaurant on Tuesday evening, March 25th from 5 PM and 9:30 PM. The restaurant will donate a percentage of the evening’s proceeds to this innovative charitable program for local high school students. Teen members will be on hand to greet patrons and answer questions about their experiences learning about non-profit organizations and making smart charitable investments to meet local needs. Proceeds from the benefit will support the teens’ grant-making work, which this year is focused on funding quality, high-impact services for elderly residents in our area. Over $63,000 has been awarded in grants since this program was established in 2008.
The restaurant’s contribution will be matched by Claude Bernstein and another, anonymous, donor who are inspired by this youth philanthropy model. That means every $1 raised that day will add $3 to their cause. A silent auction that evening will feature prizes donated by Caren Forbes, Noelle Spa, She La La, Silvermine Guild Arts Center, and Vineyard Vines. In addition, local stores Ten Thousand Villages and Caren Forbes will contribute a portion of their sales that day to the Young Philanthropists. Call elm at 920-4994 to make your reservations in advance.
