A View from the Classroom: What Teachers Can Tell Philanthropy About the Needs of Schools

What can over a million teachers tell us about the needs of schools? This report digs into the data from 1.8 million teacher requests on the crowdfunding site DonorsChoose to tell the story from inside today's classrooms. We feel this data provides a roadmap for funders seeking to support students directly, but also for funders seeking broader reform of U.S. education policy and systems.

English Language Learners Report
In 2014–15, the Latino Endowment Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving focused on the issue of English Language Learners (ELL)* through a series of forums. This report examines what they learned and highlights the opportunities and the challenges of increased cultural and linguistic diversity.

Looking at the grim picture of central city Hartford and Bridgeport when desegregation efforts began and considering the odds against the creation of new models in a time when civil rights were shrinking, what has been accomplished in Connecticut is a victory over great odds. It is also an example of the way there can be change that expands the possibilities for all and enriches the communities.
