Photo: The town of Derby hosts the 100-year-old Stevenson Dam created a lake in the middle of the Housatonic River at the convergence of Litchfield, Fairfield, and New Haven counties. The Valley Community Foundation, with offices in Derby, serves the towns in the Greater Valley (Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton).

July Where is #CCP50?

Photo: Built in 1938, the Arrigoni Bridge crosses the Connecticut River, connecting Middletown and Portland. CCP member The Rockfall Foundation is a stone’s throw from the bridge, housed in the historic deKoven House. Liberty Bank, which established CCP member Liberty Bank Foundation in 1997, is also headquartered in Middletown.

This popular destination is supported by many CCP members including: Dominion, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, Per and Astrid Heidenreich Family Foundation, Lone Pine Foundation, Newman’s Own Foundation, and Tauck Family Foundation. Fun fact: The aquarium is home to the Spirit of the Sound, the first research vessel in North America with hybrid-electric propulsion.

Photo: This submarine sculpture commemorating the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, is found on the New London dock near the ferry terminal. CCP member The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut is a short walk away.

Photo: Alexander Calder’s Stegosaurus has loomed over the mall between the Wadsworth Atheneum and Hartford City Hall since 1973. Fun fact: It was commissioned by the Ella Burr McManus Trust Fund in memory of Alfred E. Burr, founder of the Hartford Times.

February Where is #CCP50?
We did not receive a correct answer this month, so we will award two prizes in March!

Photo: The elephant and frog are found on the grounds of the Eli Whitney Museum and Workshop in Hamden. The museum, and the adjacent East Rock Park, is just a few miles from CCP member the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund.
