HARTFORD, CT -- In November 2017, the Hartford Foundation established the Respond-Rebuild-Renew Fund in response to the growing needs faced by individuals and families relocating to Greater Hartford following natural disasters.

MIDDLETOWN, CT -- Kevin Wilhelm of Middlesex United Way announced that Middletown has won the Boston Federal Reserve Working Cities Challenge, which promotes economic growth throughout cities in Connecticut, as well as other parts of New England. This grant provides $450,000 in a multi-year commitment to support the implementation of different strategies and resources to help single parents in need begin their journey toward financial stability and economic independence.

HARTFORD, CT -- The Aetna Foundation today announced 10 community health programs nationwide, and including one program in Connecticut, that are receiving their newly-launched “Spotlight Award.” The award is part of the Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge (the Challenge), an initiative launched in 2016 that supports 50 small-to-midsize cities and counties that are implementing innovative solutions to pressing public health issues in their communities. Along with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), the Aetna Foundation selected these 50 programs because of their ability to tackle social determinants of health (SDoH) that frequently lead to chronic health issues.
HARTFORD, CT -- The National Fund for Workforce Solutions today announced that it is awarding $100,000 to Workforce Solutions of Metro Hartford to advance job quality strategies in the manufacturing and healthcare industries. The grants, made possible through The Prudential Foundation, will enable local employers to incorporate new skill development strategies and business practices that will improve their competitiveness and result in better jobs for workers.

HARTFORD, CT -- In early 2018, up to five winning teams will be selected for larger Working Cities Challenge awards expected to be $450,000-$475,000 to implement their initiatives over a three-year period.
HARTFORD, CT -- Aetna is offering resources to members who have been affected by the wildfires in Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Diego counties in California. Recognizing the magnitude of this disaster and its devastating impact, the Aetna Foundation announced it will be making a $60,000 contribution to Direct Relief and a $40,000 contribution to American Red Cross to support current and forthcoming disaster relief efforts.
