Summer Youth Learning and Employment Program to serve 1,500 of the Region’s Youth
HARTFORD, CT -- Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) is pleased to announce that the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) will serve nearly 1,500 youth throughout North Central Connecticut at a time when youth and families are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and high unemployment. The sources of SYELP funding include a $1 million commitment from the City of Hartford, $300,000 from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, $150,000 from the Travelers Foundation, $60,000 from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, $15,000 from the Bank of America Foundation, and $34,500 from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA). Funds from the State of CT Youth Employment Program, and the CT Department of Children and Families have also been committed.

WEST HARTFORD, CT -- The Jewish Teen Learning Connection (JTConnect) in West Hartford is witnessing impressive growth. According to the organization, there’s an 83 percent increase in teen participation since 2017 with approximately 400 teens participating in JTConnect’s programs. Due to this growth, the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford (JCF) awarded JTConnect a $120,000 multi-year Springboard Grant to help the nonprofit build its capacity to ensure continued, sustainable growth.

People's United Bank Marks 175 Year Anniversary With Foundation Gift
BRIDGEPORT, CT -- People's United Bank , N.A. a subsidiary of People's United Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ: PBCT), will celebrate its 175th anniversary on December 24th. To commence the celebration, the bank today announced a $175,000 grant from People's United Community Foundation to Junior Achievement USA, who will use the funding for upcoming regional financial literacy and career-readiness programs for youth across six states that align with the People's United footprint, including: CT, NY, MA, VT, NH, ME. This is the single largest one-time grant gifted by the Foundation to a non-profit organization since launching in 2007.
Hartford Re-Engages Youth in Paid Community Service
HARTFORD, CT -- The Hartford Youth Service Corps kicked off its second year of helping youth participate in paid community service projects Thursday. This year, Mayor Luke Bronin raised $2.5 million for the YSC. Funders include: Barbara Dalio and the Dalio Foundation, the Travelers Foundation, the Newman's Own Foundation, United Technologies Corporation, The Hartford, the Aetna Foundation, and Key Bank.
Private Donations Will Support Hartford's Youth Service Corps For Second Year
In its first year, Mayor Luke Bronin’s youth service corps has put more than 200 young people to work on hundreds of projects across Hartford. The program, anchored last year by $2.2 million in private donations, has received enough funds to push ahead for another 12 months. Funds came from insurance giants like The Travelers, Aetna and The Hartford, and from the Newman’s Own Foundation, the Dalio Foundation and other charitable groups.
