Connecticut Health Foundation names Kenneth R. Alleyne new board chair
HARTFORD, CT -- The Connecticut Health Foundation elected Kenneth R. Alleyne as chair of its board of directors. He succeeds David I. Newton in chairing the board of Connecticut’s largest independent health philanthropy. In addition to electing a new chair, the foundation board appointed two new members and awarded $342,025 in grants this quarter.

HARTFORD, CT -- The Aetna Foundation today announced 10 community health programs nationwide, and including one program in Connecticut, that are receiving their newly-launched “Spotlight Award.” The award is part of the Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge (the Challenge), an initiative launched in 2016 that supports 50 small-to-midsize cities and counties that are implementing innovative solutions to pressing public health issues in their communities. Along with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), the Aetna Foundation selected these 50 programs because of their ability to tackle social determinants of health (SDoH) that frequently lead to chronic health issues.

Three Foundations Join Forces to Advance Obesity Prevention Efforts in Connecticut
HARTFORD, CT -- Early Childhood Obesity is the focus of three Connecticut-based foundations as they combine forces to award $194,884 in grants for obesity prevention projects in Connecticut. The grants are funded with contributions from the Children’s Fund of Connecticut (CFC), the Connecticut Health Foundation, and Newman’s Own Foundation and will be administered by CFC’s non-profit subsidiary, the Child Health and Development Institute (CHDI).
