MEDIA ADVISORY: Second Chance Training & Employment Program to be Recognized

HARTFORD, CT -- The Second Chance IBEST Program, led by Capital Workforce Partners in partnership with a dozen other agencies, will be holding its Second Annual IBEST Second Chance Recognition Awards Event at the Chrysalis Center in Hartford CT on April 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will honor Returning Citizens, advocates, employers and other partners who have participated and supported 275 Returning Citizens working to gain employment in the Capitol Region in the past two years.

Danbury Named As Finalist In Bloomberg Philanthropies’ 2018 Mayors Challenge

DANBURY, CT -- Out of 320 applicants, the City of Danbury is one of 35 finalists in the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2018 U.S. Mayors Challenge, a nationwide competition that encourages city leaders to uncover bold, inventive ideas that confront the toughest problems cities face. Danbury’s application, led by the City of Danbury in partnership with United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC), rose to the top for our innovative approach to finding a solution to the lack of affordable childcare options for low-income families.

Braille Program to Offer York Inmates Job, Purpose

NIANTIC, CT -- The prison Braille program at York will be a partnership between the American Printing House for the Blind, Department of Correction and the state Department of Rehabilitation Services' Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind. The J. Walton Bissell Foundation of West Hartford awarded APH a $26,000 grant to buy computers and other equipment needed to launch the program, including a Perkins Braille embosser, translation software and Braille paper.
