Career Resources, Inc. wins $200K grant from Bank of America to continue its commitment to workforce development in Southern CT

BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Career Resources, Inc. has been named a 2017 Neighborhood Builder® by Bank of America. The nonprofit is being recognized for its holistic, integrated approach to helping area residents gain and retain employment. The Neighborhood Builders (#NeighborhoodBuilders) grant will provide Career Resources, Inc. with a unique combination of leadership development, $200,000 in flexible funding, involvement in a network of peer organizations across the U.S. and the opportunity to access capital in order to expand their impact in the Southern Connecticut community.

Private Donations Will Support Hartford's Youth Service Corps For Second Year

In its first year, Mayor Luke Bronin’s youth service corps has put more than 200 young people to work on hundreds of projects across Hartford. The program, anchored last year by $2.2 million in private donations, has received enough funds to push ahead for another 12 months. Funds came from insurance giants like The Travelers, Aetna and The Hartford, and from the Newman’s Own Foundation, the Dalio Foundation and other charitable groups.

Hartford Re-Engages Youth in Paid Community Service

HARTFORD, CT -- The Hartford Youth Service Corps kicked off its second year of helping youth participate in paid community service projects Thursday. This year, Mayor Luke Bronin raised $2.5 million for the YSC. Funders include: Barbara Dalio and the Dalio Foundation, the Travelers Foundation, the Newman's Own Foundation, United Technologies Corporation, The Hartford, the Aetna Foundation, and Key Bank.

Local Funds Save Part of Youth Summer Jobs Program

NEW LONDON, CT -- The lack of a state budget has kept $500,000 in state funding from making its way to Eastern Connecticut for the region's Summer Youth Employment Program. Led by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board several organizations collectively contributed $375,334 to keep it going. Contributing organizations were the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Foundation, Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, Liberty Bank Foundation, Mystic Aquarium, New London Public Schools, Windham Regional Community Council and People's United Community Foundation, along with federal funds.

Working Cities Design Grant Winners Celebrate

HARTFORD, CT --Liberty Bank Foundation, a funder of the Connecticut Working Cities Challenge, and a participant on the statewide Advisory Board, reviews the Design Grant formal announcement at Real Arts Ways in Hartford. Ten Connecticut cities were selected to receive a $15,000 design grant under the Connecticut Working Cities Challenge.
