HARTFORD, CT -- Six school districts in Connecticut will begin the school year with new Chromebooks and home Internet connectivity, enabling distance learning for the first time for nearly 3,000 students from underserved communities. The $1 million initiative will support students in kindergarten through Grade 5 in the Bloomfield, East Hartford, Manchester, Vernon, Windsor, and Windsor Locks school districts. The grants, awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and made possible through funding from The LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation, are being distributed by First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise focused on equal access to quality education.

HARTFORD, CT -- Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) is pleased to announce that the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) will serve nearly 1,500 youth throughout North Central Connecticut at a time when youth and families are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and high unemployment. The sources of SYELP funding include a $1 million commitment from the City of Hartford, $300,000 from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, $150,000 from the Travelers Foundation, $60,000 from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, $15,000 from the Bank of America Foundation, and $34,500 from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA). Funds from the State of CT Youth Employment Program, and the CT Department of Children and Families have also been committed.
HARTFORD, CT -- Stanley Black & Decker and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving say they teamed to donate $100,000 to UConn Health workers combating the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus. Each donated $50,000 to help the Farmington healthcare facility purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and pay for 10 weeks of childcare support and temporary housing for employees while they treat patients with COVID-19, officials announced Monday.

Their commitment will catalyze action with results to create housing stability for all Fairfield County residents.
HARTFORD, CT -- In April, the City of Hartford, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, HEDCO, Inc., and Capital For Change launched a $1 million Small Business Emergency Assistance Grant Program. The aim is to provide at least 100 small Hartford businesses with a grant of up to $10,000 to make lease or mortgage payments, pay salaries, make vendor payments, pay taxes, or make modifications to their physical space or technology to comply with social distancing guidelines. In an effort to support additional Hartford small businesses, Bank of America and Travelers have each made grants of $125,000 and the City of Hartford has allocated an additional $125,000 to the initiative.
MERIDEN-WALLOINGFORD, CT -- The United Way of Meriden and Wallingford and the Meriden-Wallingford Community Foundation are collaborating with nine local major financial backers on the Meriden-Wallingford Community Foundation Coronavirus Response Fund.
