Insurers' Aid On Hold As Hartford Works Through Financial Turmoil

HARTFORD, CT -- Hartford’s fiscal turmoil is putting on hold $50 million in aid from three major insurers. The largesse, promised in early March by chief executive officers Mark T. Bertolini of Aetna Inc., Christopher J. Swift of The Hartford and Alan D. Schnitzer of Travelers Cos. Inc., was conditioned on “being part of a comprehensive and sustainable solution” for Hartford, the executives said.

Culinary School in New Milford Receives Grant

NEW MILFORD, CT -- The Community Culinary School of Northwestern Connecticut, in New Milford, received a $3,500 grant from the People’s United Community Foundation. The Community Culinary School offers a 12-week culinary training and job placement program to unemployed and underemployed adults who want to start a career in the food-service industry.

Torrington Youth Summer Program Gets Second Chance After Eversource Donation

TORRINGTON, CT -- Programs like the Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau’s Summer Youth Employment rely on financial support from the state to function. With no approved state budget in June, the summer program was in jeopardy of being canceled completely. But a recent donation from Eversource helped organizers of the program to hire four students.

Liberty Bank Giving Circle Donations Total $28,000

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Liberty Bank has donated a total of $28,000 to local agencies providing emergency or transitional housing for homeless families and individuals, and serving the communities of: Bristol, Middletown, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Norwich, Waterbury and Willimantic.
