Hospital for Special Care Receives $150K Grant to Help Expand Autism Services

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- The American Savings Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant to support expansion of the Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, including development of a partial hospitalization program and an education and day center.  Maria Falvo, president and CEO of American Savings Foundation, said the new program will help reduce waiting lists for inpatient care by creating a resource for youth who need more intense services than are currently available at an outpatient level.

New Issue Brief Addresses Northwest Connecticut's Addiction Crisis

SHARON, CT -- The Foundation for Community Health has launched a new publication series, Cultivating Solutions, designed to share information, raise awareness and advocate for change. The inaugural publication, "Addressing Northwest Connecticut's Addiction Crisis," tackles the addiction epidemic via an issue brief, future editions may vary in composition or format depending on the topic.

Holiday Program Brings Hope Home to Lung Cancer Patients

RIDGEFIELD, CT -- The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) and Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., have joined forces to make the season brighter for lung cancer patients through the Bring Hope Home for the Holidays partnership. This program is helping lung cancer patients make holiday memories across the nation through December 20, 2017.

New Study Revealing the Opioid Crisis Impact in Northwest CT

TORRINGTON, CT -- A new report about the impact of opioids was the center of a roundtable discussion in Torrington Wednesday afternoon. The report, “Beneath the Surface: The Opioid Epidemic in Northwest Connecticut” explores the crime rates related to opioid addiction in the area, insurance rates, treatment admission rates, how the crisis started, and what solutions can work specifically in a rural region. The Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation, the Foundation for Community Health, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, and the McCall Center for Behavioral Health partnered to publish the report.
