American Savings Foundation Announces New Community Grants Program

Thursday, November 29, 2018

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- American Savings Foundation is announcing a new grant opportunity. Responding to feedback from grantseekers, the Foundation’s new Community Grants program is designed to better respond to a wide range of local needs throughout the 64 towns traditionally served by the American Savings Foundation.

Requests for Community Grants, which will range from $250 to $5,000, may be submitted using a new online application, which is currently available at www.asfdn.org. In keeping with the Foundation’s mission, requests for Community Grants should be for programs and organizations that strengthen the community through education, human services, and the arts, with a special emphasis on the needs of children, youth, and families.

Agencies that have received a program or after school grant greater than $5,000 in the past year are not eligible to apply for Community Grants.

In 2019, there will be two deadlines for review:

  • Applications received by February 1, 2019 will be reviewed in March.
  • Applications received by October 25, 2019 will be reviewed in December.

There is no change to the proposal process for the other grantmaking areas at the American Savings Foundation, including program grants and capital grants. In 2018, the Foundation expects to distribute a total of nearly $3.3 million in grants and college scholarships in the communities it serves.

American Savings Foundation is a permanent charitable endowment which provides grants to local nonprofit organizations, and college scholarships to area students. Since its inception in 1995 the Foundation has contributed over $57 million in total grants and scholarships in central Connecticut.
