The 36-hour “Give Local” campaign will benefit 257 local nonprofits

Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills on April 24-25WATERBURY, CT -- It’s become an annual giving tradition! On April 24 and 25, Connecticut Community Foundation will host Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills, a 36-hour online giving event that will benefit 257 nonprofit organizations in the region.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on April 24, all donations to participating nonprofits on the website www.GiveLocalCCF.org will be boosted with $190,000 in bonus funds contributed by Connecticut Community Foundation, local business and individual sponsors. Nonprofits can also compete for $58,000 more in cash prizes.

Ion Bank Foundation is again leading the business community’s support, serving as the presenting sponsor for the sixth consecutive year. In addition to more than 30 businesses and individual sponsors, several media sponsors have also joined the effort to spread the word about Give Local, including the Republican-American, WATR 1320 AM, and WZBG 97.3 FM.

“Give Local is a great way for thousands of people to give back and give together. And it’s also a lot of fun!” said Julie Loughran, president and CEO of Connecticut Community Foundation. “You can watch the flurry of giving grow in real time on the Give Local website during the event, and cash prizes awarded almost every hour to local nonprofits add to the excitement. The best part? All the dollars raised go toward helping local neighborhoods and communities thrive.”

Christina Reddington, director of external affairs at Wellspring, said that fundraising through the event has made it possible for the mental health organization and educational center in Bethlehem, Connecticut, to broaden its fundraising to complete big-ticket projects.

“Thanks to Give Local Greater Waterbury Litchfield Hills and the Connecticut Community Foundation, Wellspring has raised funds to renovate the kitchen of one of our residential programs for adolescent girls, helped to furnish a newly constructed school building, and provided sliding fee scale mental health services to local residents,” Reddington said.

Wellspring’s story is just one of many, with hundreds of organizations benefitting from the groundswell of support during Give Local.

Since 2013, over $4.5 million has been raised for area nonprofits through Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills.
