     Foundation data for Giving in Connecticut comes primarily from the Foundation Center's data set of 2012 990 and 990 PFs and their Foundation Giving Trends, 2012 Edition. Individual giving data comes from the Internal Revenue Service's Statistics of Income, Individual Income and Tax Data for 2012. This is the most recent time period for which complete data are available.
     To provide more robust data for future reports, the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy (CCP) is enlisting its members and other funders in the national Get on the Map campaign. This campaign is a partnership between the CCP, the Foundation Center and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, and has as its mission: to improve the quality, timeliness, and availability of rich grant data for and about funders in our region.

datahaven COMMUNITY WELLBEING SURVEY EARNS SUPPORT FROM TOP FOUNDATIONS

     DataHaven, a nonprofit group leading the collection and study of public data on key social and economic indicators, has announced the commencement of the 2015 Community Wellbeing Survey. This will be the most comprehensive quality of life survey ever conducted in Connecticut, covering issues such as community vitality, health, family economic security, and individual happiness.

      Supporters of the 2015 survey include dozens of the state's leading foundations, including community foundations and United Ways located in Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Waterbury, New Britain, Norwalk, Derby, and New London.

     Building on the success of its 2012 survey of Greater New Haven, DataHaven's 2015 Community Wellbeing Survey will expand this scope to encompass the entire state.

     "This is a nationally recognized program that provides neighborhood- and regional-level information not available from any other source, with a mission to produce the highest-quality findings on the issues that are most meaningful to residents of all of Connecticut's towns and cities," says Mark Abraham, executive director of DataHaven.

     Partners providing significant funding for the program representat each region of the state. This funding will support DataHaven as it conducts the statewide survey, interviewing 15,000 randomly selected residents about their views on topics related to civic engagement, health, economic security, transportation, housing, and employment, as well as on their individual happiness and satisfaction with government and community life.

     Results from the survey will be published in a series of local and statewide reports throughout late 2015 and 2016, helping to shed light on progress made toward various longstanding community priorities, including financial security for families and opportunities for children to succeed.

     Additional Foundation partners include: Connecticut Community Foundation; Valley Community Foundation; United Way of Waterbury; Connecticut Council for Philanthropy; NewAlliance Foundation; Main Street Community Foundation; Carolyn Foundation;

fccfreportFAIRFIELD COUNTY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM A MODEL FOR OTHERS
      Fairfield County's Community Foundation recently released a white paper, Executive Leadership Program, a powerful model for peer-to-peer executive professional development, summarizing its nonprofit executive leadership program to serve as a model for other community foundations.
     Download the white paper >>
     In early 2014, the Community Foundation's Center for Nonprofit Excellence began a peer-to-peer professional development program for 10 executive directors across Fairfield County. Each heads a nonprofit that has received grants from the Community Foundation.
     The program is modeled after proven executive peer-to-peer coaching in the for-profit world, but tailored for nonprofit leaders. Participants, all executive directors or CEOs, come together in a spirit of respect and trust to discuss their challenges, concerns and opportunities in order to become more effective leaders.
     The executive leadership program includes monthly group sessions, monthly one-on-one coaching with a facilitator, and bimonthly best practice sessions with guest speakers.
     Within one year, participants and their nonprofits reported personal and professional growth that led to greater confidence, and increased effectiveness for staff, board engagement, financial management and fundraising.
