Jane Williams Joins Women & Girls Fund Executive Committee

TORRINGTON, CT -- Jane Williams of Winsted has been named to the executive committee of the Women & Girls Fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation. The Fund’s current funding priority is to support, through annual grant awards, women and girls in the development of economic self-sufficiency by means of education, financial literacy and social services.

Ms. Williams is the Workforce Development Coordinator for the Center for Workforce Development at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, where she works in the development of education and training services for public and private employers across Northwest Connecticut. She also launched the Entrepreneurial Center of Northwest Connecticut in 2017, which helps to develop vibrant and connected communities of entrepreneurs in Northwest Connecticut.

Prior to that she was the Workforce Development Coordinator for the Board of Regents for Higher Education. She also she worked as a Resource Associate at the Department of Labor, a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at the Department of Rehabilitation Services, and a Community Service Representative at the Department of Labor.

Ms. Williams received her Master of Science in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University. She has is a member of several committees, including the Connecticut Training and Development Network and the Connecticut Learns and Works Conference. She is involved in many workforce partnerships, including the Northwest Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Workforce Investment Board, and Northwest Council of Government.

Established as a giving circle in 1999 by a small group of women who shared a concern for the real-life needs of local women and girls, the Women & Girls Fund has awarded more than $70,000 to organizations that serve local women and girls in the development of economic self-sufficiency by means of education, financial literacy and social services.

The Fund has awarded grants to support local child-care scholarships for working mothers, assisted local unemployed women to enter the workforce, provided transportation to working women, enhanced community economic opportunities and promoted self-sufficiency for women leaving abusive relationships, and funded leadership and assertiveness workshops for girls. Established in 1969, the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation serves 20 towns in Northwest Connecticut. Its total endowment, comprised of more than 280 funds, has grown from initial assets of $15,000 to more than $110 million. Last year, combined grants and scholarships totaled more than $3 million.
