Newton in chairing the board of Connecticut’s largest independent health philanthropy. Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the event has generated more than $20 million for more than 750 charities across the region.

CHESHIRE, CT -- A team effort full of heart will help more than 100 non-profits in more than 20 towns in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills areas continue their important work during the COVID-19 pandemic. That team effort is happening at Marion Manufacturing in Cheshire, where workers have volunteered their time to unpack a truck load of PPE so representatives from the non-profits could pick them up. We’re talking about 200,000 surgical masks, 4,000 face shields, close to 800 N-95 masks. All of that made possible because of donations made to a COVID-19 Response Fund by the Greater Waterbury United Way and the Connecticut Community Foundation.

HARTFORD, CT -- Stanley Black & Decker and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving say they teamed to donate $100,000 to UConn Health workers combating the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus. Each donated $50,000 to help the Farmington healthcare facility purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and pay for 10 weeks of childcare support and temporary housing for employees while they treat patients with COVID-19, officials announced Monday.

ORANGE, CT -- As part of a broader commitment to support COVID-19 relief and recovery AVANGRID subsidiaries, United Illuminating and Southern Connecticut Gas, are providing funding to support the struggling downtown business districts in Bridgeport and New Haven. They are providing $20,000 to Bridgeport's Downtown Special Services District to help small, independent, ground-floor businesses plan and execute their reopening. Another $20,000 grant will help the Economic Development Corporation of New Haven/REX Development provide micro-grants so that downtown restaurants and shops can provide safe outdoor dining and retail spaces.
