Liberty Bank Foundation Approves $99,800 in Grants

MARKETWIDE, CT -- The Liberty Bank Foundation has approved $99,800 in grants to nonprofit organizations serving in Liberty Bank’s footprint and surrounding areas to support programs that will provide early childhood education, affordable housing, and basic human needs. The following organizations received grants:

New London County

  • FRESH New London ‐ $5,000 To support the FRESH leadership program
  • Light House Voc‐Ed Center ‐ $5,000 to retain a development consultant to support the creation of 10 units of affordable housing for individuals with autism.
  • Riverfront Children’s Center, Inc. ‐ $5,000 to support early childhood educational programming at the center
  • Thames Valley Council for Community for Action, Inc. ‐‐ $5,000 to support the homelessness prevention and diversion financial assistance pool
  • Hartford County Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Hartford ‐ $5,000 to support the Meriden Family Center’s school readiness program
  • Connecticut Housing Coalition ‐ $5,000 to test the feasibility of an affordable housing internship program
  • Connecticut Invention Convention ‐‐ $5,000 to support expansion of the STEM learning program into two new schools in Bristol
  • Farm to Family, Inc. ‐ $2,500 to expand the West Hartford weekend backpack program for elementary school students who are food insecure
  • Girl Scouts of Connecticut, Inc. ‐ $2,500 to support Step Up to STEM, a program designed to involve girls in STEM‐related activities
  • Neighborhood Housing Services of New Britain, Inc. ‐ $10,000 to support creation of a full‐time developer/property manager position
  • New Britain Youth Theater ‐ $2,500 to support the On Stage! youth theater program

Middlesex County

  • Middlesex Coalition for Children – $5,000 to support general operating expenses
  • Middlesex Habitat for Humanity of CT, Inc. ‐ $5,000 to support the renovation of a home at 160 Julia Terrace, Middletown
  • The Connection, Inc. ‐ $5,000 to supply food for shelter residents and to purchase a computer for staff

New Haven County

  • Agency on Aging of South Central CT ‐ $5,000 to support the Experience Corps, and intergenerational literacy program for k‐3 students
  • Community Action Agency of New Haven, Inc. ‐ $5,000 to support the SMART program (single mothers actively reaching the top)
  • Music Haven ‐ $5,000 to support the academic success initiative

Windham County

  • ACCESS Community Action Agency, Inc. ‐ $5,000 to support the access to employment program
  • Horizons ‐ $2,500 to support the educational support services stipends project
  • Windham Regional Community Council ‐ $4,800 to support Windham Youth CORE/GROW
  • Windham Windham Regional No Freeze Hospitality Center, Inc. ‐ $5,000 to expand the position of the shelter to manager to include system change work to end youth homelessness

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Liberty Bank Foundation has awarded over $10.7 million in grants to nonprofit organizations within Liberty Bank’s market area since its inception.   The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for people of low or moderate income by investing in three areas: education to promote economic success for children and families; affordable housing; and basic human needs, such as food and shelter. Along with its grantmaking, the foundation strives to foster the convening and collaboration of nonprofits, funders, business, and government to address community issues.
