WASHINGTON, DC -- The Momentum Fund announced today that it has awarded $8.5 million in grants to 129 501(c)(3) organizations around the country managing COVID-19 relief funds that provide grants and other forms of direct support to community-run organizations working with communities of color, historically marginalized populations, and other groups being disproportionately impacted by the pandemic that continues to ravage these communities.
NORWALK, CT -- Norwalk Public Schools will launch a comprehensive initiative designed to examine and address educational equity in Norwalk. Starting immediately, the district will partner with Temple University's Dr. Edward Fergus on an eight-month project that will include implicit bias and diversity training. The Collective Impact Opportunity Fund at Fairfield County's Community Foundation has committed to funding the Norwalk Educational Equity Initiative. This invitation-only Fund makes grants to public agencies and non-profit organizations striving to close educational, workforce and other opportunity gaps among children, youth and families in Connecticut.
HARTFORD, CT -- Six school districts in Connecticut will begin the school year with new Chromebooks and home Internet connectivity, enabling distance learning for the first time for nearly 3,000 students from underserved communities. The $1 million initiative will support students in kindergarten through Grade 5 in the Bloomfield, East Hartford, Manchester, Vernon, Windsor, and Windsor Locks school districts. NEW HAVEN, CT -- Depsite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Justin Elicker and members of the Greater New Haven 2020 Census Complete Count Committee, with support from the City of New Haven, have announced that on Friday, May 8, from 10 AM to 4 PM, a socially distanced, Party-On-Wheels will be rolling through the city’s undercounted neighborhoods. Residents will stay safely inside their homes to celebrate the festive caravan featuring live music. Those who complete the census are eligible to win prizes that include a tablet, Chromebook, or gift card. Residents that have already completed the census can get a second shot at the drawing by sharing a video or photo of their census celebration.
