BACKGROUND: Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place on March 2, Dr. Seuss¹s birthday. United Way has been bringing together kids, books and volunteers to participate in the National Education Association's (NEA) annual event since 2013.

At United Way, we believe it¹s important to promote children reading and loving books, especially within the years of kindergarten to third grade. That¹s why on Read Across America Day, 140 United Way volunteers in our region will spend the morning fostering a love of learning and reading among thousands of children in East Hartford, Hartford and New Britain.
