TORRINGTON, CT -- The Women & Girls Fund, a fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $1,000 to LARC to support financial aid to single mothers to enable their children to attend Camp MOE.
“Kids in Northwest Connecticut look forward to summer fun at Camp MOE, and we are delighted to support this program,” said Frances Stoffer, Vice Chair of the Women and Girls Executive Committee. “Our grant provides that opportunity to children of single working moms, and it also provides peace of mind for those moms. They need to know that their children are safe and happy when they are away from home.”
The Women & Girls Fund awards grants in support of local organizations that are working to develop economic self-sufficiency for women by means of education, financial literacy and social services.
Established as a giving circle in 1999 by a small group of women who shared a concern for the real-life needs of local women and girls, the Women & Girls Fund has awarded more than $60,000 to organizations that work to help women and girls develop skills, attain economic security, and improve their quality of life.
In recent years, the Fund has awarded grants to support childcare scholarships for working mothers, assist unemployed women to enter the workforce, provide automobiles to working women who need transportation, enhance economic opportunities and promote self-sufficiency for women leaving abusive relationships, and fund leadership and assertiveness workshops for high school girls.

Established in 1969, the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation serves 20 towns in Northwest Connecticut. Its total endowment, comprised of more than 280 funds, has grown from initial assets of $15,000 to more than $110 million. Last year, combined grants and scholarships totaled more than $4 million.
