Join the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy for this popular series designed to provide background, essential information, and an understanding of the fundamentals of working in philanthropy. Led by Council staff and members with experience and expertise, this virtual series will:

  • provide a historical overview of philanthropy and the types of foundations,
  • review from a governance and legal lens what foundations can and can’t do,
  • delve into the art and process of grantmaking,
  • explore the different roles and power dynamics of working in philanthropy and
  • examine big questions and debates around impact strategies.

Fundamentals of Philanthropy will take place over five sessions that build on each other. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all five sessions. Each session will also include time to get to know your fellow participants and grow your professional networks.

All sessions will take place virtually from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 1, 2024.

Who should attend? This series is for anyone who has joined the sector in the last few years, or who is interested in reviewing the fundamentals.
