NEW BRITAIN, CT -- For nearly 40 years, Dr. Walter Fletcher tended to the oral health needs of countless children and families from New Britain and beyond at his 55 West Main Street dental practice in Downtown New Britain. When the beloved Dr. Fletcher’s life was unexpectedly cut short in 1982 at age 60 following a heart attack, a seed was planted to one day honor the legacy of a man who cared deeply for his hometown and the people who lived here.
BRISTOL, CT -- On November 28, a $13,525 grant from The Broad View Fund at Main Street Community Foundation was awarded to support a collaborative exchange between Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center, the Bristol Preschool Child Care Center, and the Talcott Center for Child Development. DANBURY, CT -- The Danbury Early College Opportunity (DECO) program at Danbury High School has received a $30,000 grant from the Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF). The grant will give students in the program access to course programming that will help them in their pursuit of an Associate Degree in Computer Information Sciences.
HARTFORD, CT -- As Connecticut continues to respond to budget challenges and declining school enrollment, some school districts have been considering regionalizing their K-12 education services as a way to reduce costs. In an effort to get a clearer understanding of the potential educational and community impacts of school and district regionalization, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has sponsored a comprehensive analysis of the impacts of K-12 regionalization to help inform those efforts. The literature review focuses on what is known about the effects of K-12 regionalization on education expenditures and educational achievement, based on recent empirical studies.
