Travelers Announces the Start of the 2018 Travelers Championship
HARTFORD, CT -- The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) today announced the start of the 2018 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. This year’s tournament features many of the PGA TOUR’s top players, including defending champion Jordan Spieth, as well as Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Paul Casey, Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson. The Travelers Championship donates 100 percent of its net proceeds to charity and has generated more than $38 million since the event began in 1952. Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the Travelers Championship has generated nearly $15 million for more than 700 nonprofit organizations throughout New England, including $1.7 million for more than 160 charities in 2017.

WESTPORT, CT -- In recognition of reaching the milestone of $500 milliondonated to charity, Newman's Own Foundation has launched a #Newmanitarian campaign, calling for acts of kindness. This can include small gestures of being kind, doing good deeds, and extending generosity towards others. Individuals are asked to visit Newmanitarian.org and take a pledge to give back. Newmanitarians can then share the pledge and their good deeds on social media.
Comcast Employees Participate in Operation Gratitude
BERLIN, CT -- For 10 years now, Comcast employees based in the Western New England headquarters in Connecticut, along with their friends and family, have knitted and crocheted for a cause. This year the group handmade over 260 hats and scarves, most of which were donated to Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization that distributes care packages to active-duty troops, as well as veterans, wounded heroes and emergency first-responders. Over 2,000 pieces have been made and donated since the campaign began.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Newman’s Own Foundation isn’t mentioned in the Senate or House tax bills by name, but appears to be the target of a specific carveout—among the many highly targeted breaks and exemptions in the new GOP tax plans. The unusual structure of the Newman’s Own Foundation, a nonprofit charity that wholly owns a for-profit food company, leaves it vulnerable to a punitive 200 percent tax that would break up the arrangement, and for the past nine years it has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars lobbying Congress to change U.S. law so it can be exempt.
