HARTFORD, CT -- About 13,000 residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands who arrived in Connecticut in the aftermath of the hurricanes Maria and Irma continue to struggle with obtaining basic needs including adequate housing, food, medical care and jobs, according to a survey commissioned by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- With the Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico Relief Fund well on its way to $50,000 in donations, the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain and American Savings Foundation – which teamed together in late September to establish the fund in the wake of the devastating storm – have announced that the grant application process has been opened to non-profit organizations in the Greater New Britain area seeking assistance with relocation efforts of hurricane victims.
HARTFORD, CT -- Refugee families from Puerto Rico who are dropped from the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s transitional housing program may be eligible for assistance through a $200,000 grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The foundation announced this week that it is making the award to the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, just as 37 families in the state — as of Wednesday — were expected to lose the FEMA or state aid that is supporting them at various hotels around the state, including Hartford’s Red Roof Inn.
