CONNECTICUT -- For more than a decade prior to the pandemic, a growing number of working poor families in Connecticut faced stagnating wages and a rising cost of living, according to a new report from the United Way.

STAMFORD, CT -- The Children’s Learning Centers of Fairfield County has received a grant of a $35,000 from the United Way of Western Connecticut. The grant will provide critical funding to enable families to access high-quality early childhood education at the the Children’s Learning Centers. The United Way said it is working to help families it describes as Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed, or ALICE.
DANBURY, CT -- United Way of Western Connecticut and the Danbury Fair Mall collected 4,000 pounds of nonperishable food at a food drive conducted on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, 2020 in the Mall’s parking lot. In addition, the event, which served as this year’s United Way Day of Action, also raised $2,400 in donations. Both the food and the monetary donations will be distributed among nine food pantries in the greater Danbury area that are members of the Danbury Food Collaborative.

Cora’s Kids is part of the DanburyWORKS initiative, whose mission is to improve equity and the quality of life in the City of Danbury; United Way of Western Connecticut provides backbone support.

The scholarship recognizes seniors attending any Stamford high school (public or private) who have volunteered extensively in the Stamford community over the course of their high school careers.
