Community Groups in New Britain, Bristol and Three Nearby Towns Aid 44 Homeless Young People

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- As a high-intensity 100-day campaign winds down, community groups in five central Connecticut cities and towns report they’ve lined up housing for 44 homeless young people. Among the organizations participating were the Melville Charitable Trust, Partnership for Strong Communities, the city of New Britain’s community services department, the Salvation Army, the American Savings Foundation, the OIC of New Britain, Community Health Resources, the Friendship Service Center, Prudence Crandall, Journey Home, the United Way, the state Department of Housing, the Main Street Community Foundation, and the Human Resources Agency of New Britain.

2018 Youth Employment Program to Serve 1,300 Youths

HARTFORD, CT -- More than 1,000 youths in Greater Hartford will begin working under a summer career readiness program aimed at training young people for jobs in high-demand sectors. The Capital City contributed $1 million to the program, while the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving provided more than $400,000. The state, its labor unit department and the American Savings Foundation and other groups also provided funding for the workforce program.

Hospital for Special Care Receives $150K Grant to Help Expand Autism Services

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- The American Savings Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant to support expansion of the Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, including development of a partial hospitalization program and an education and day center.  Maria Falvo, president and CEO of American Savings Foundation, said the new program will help reduce waiting lists for inpatient care by creating a resource for youth who need more intense services than are currently available at an outpatient level.

This ambitious 16-week course will begin in January and include 25 presenters from local nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. At the end of the course, up to two of these projects may each be funded with a $5,000 grant from the American Savings Foundation.
